Pack Light, Ride Right

Gear & Packing

On a Cavalcade, your horse and the pack horses carry everything β€” so it all has to fit the saddle bags and stuff sacks.

Good News

Philmont Provides a Lot

You don't haul horse tack or most crew gear. Philmont issues the heavy stuff β€” you bring personal items, a few specifics, and your own stove.

🐎

All Horse Gear

Saddles, bridles, halters, saddle bags, and helmets β€” all provided and fitted at the ranch.

β›Ί

Crew Camp Gear

Tents, pots, dining fly, bear bags & rope, camp suds, matches, toilet paper, and a packing stuff sack.

πŸ”₯

You Bring the Stove

Cavalcade crews must bring their own backpacking stoves (or ship them ahead) β€” this is on us.

πŸ“ Everything Must Fit

Personal gear packs into a stuff sack (about 21ΒΌ" long Γ— 11" diameter) and saddle bags (~3" Γ— 12" Γ— 12" per side). Larger sacks aren't permitted. Philmont's stuff sack is not waterproof β€” bring your own 30L waterproof stuff sack (same dimensions) if you want one. You may not bring your own saddle, bridle, saddle pad, or saddle bags.
